BIO
Celebrated for her captivating stage presence and artistry, Soprano Therese Kulas won first place in her division at North Dakota’s National Association of Teachers of Singing competition, and was awarded the Encouragement Award from the North Dakota-Manitoba chapter of the Metropolitan Opera National Council. A native of East Grand Forks, MN, Ms. Kulas is a proud alumna of the Summer Performing Arts program in Grand Forks where she took the stage in Children of Eden (Yonah) and Beauty and the Beast (Mrs. Potts). Other selected regional credits include Into the Woods (Cinderella), Hairspray (Penny), and the world premiere of In Case of Emergency (Maria). Ms. Kulas’s passion for music began at a young age. She studied voice from the age of 10 with renowned educator Maria Williams-Kennedy. This passion led her to the University of Mary where she studied with Katherine Henjum and graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance. While studying, she was in Amahl and the Night Visitors (Mother) and Fiddler on the Roof (Hodel). She has been a featured soloist with the Bismarck-Mandan Symphony Orchestra and Missouri Valley Chamber Orchestra. Ms. Kulas currently resides in St. Paul where she assists with the Twin Cities Women's and Girls' Choirs and teaches voice through her private studio.
PERFORMANCE
PHOTOS
“Therese Kulas’s interpretation of Bernstein’s Jeremiah Symphony 'Lamentations' was one of great depth and beauty, well-beyond her years. For me, the orchestra and the audience, her voice evoked deep emotion and gave us all ‘chills.’ Our concert sponsor who has studied every major recording in existence of the piece, said that this was the best performance he had ever heard. Therese has a very bright future in the music world, and the music world is brighter already because of her talent and spirit.”

LESSONS
I am pleased to be a part of the Twin Cities music community to teach what I have learned from my education at the University of Mary and the Bel Canto Studio of Voice.
I teach in the traditional Italian style of singing, emphasizing concepts of placement, breathing, diction, tone, language, style, and musical expression. It is my firm belief that these are the building blocks of all singing in all styles, from classical to contemporary.
Mission & Philosophy
It is my mission to bring arts education to wherever I am, and to promote it as fully as possible.
We are all capable of participating and appreciating art. The arts bring all people closer to the human experience, and it is my belief that a well formed person is a well formed artist. I teach the person first, then the artist.
